Crafting Coastal Art

Explore pottery inspired by the beach, waves, turtles, and iconic lighthouses of the Outer Banks of North Carolina, created by Heather Ellington at Outer Banks Pottery.

The Beginnings

Crafting Coastal Beauty with Clay

As a child, summers with my family along North Carolina’s coast filled me with wonder and creativity. Each visit inspired me to craft art that reflects the magic of each visit. Outer Banks Pottery was born from this passion, with every piece lovingly handcrafted to capture the spirit and coastal charm of the Outer Banks.

Creative Path

Shaping Stories Through Clay and Coastline

Outer Banks Pottery is a reflection of my journey as an artist and educator. My passion for ceramics began at UNC Greensboro, where I discovered my love for wheel throwing and creating functional vessels. After over a decade of teaching art in Guilford County Schools, I transitioned to fully embrace my craft and launch Outer Banks Pottery.

Each piece I create is inspired by the raw beauty of the Outer Banks, where the coastal landscapes fuel my imagination. Specializing in sgraffito, I blend storytelling with functionality, turning clay into works of art that capture the spirit of the coast. Through wheel-throwing classes and workshops, I share this craft with others, celebrating the transformative process that fuels my creativity.

Shaping Tomorrow’s Heirlooms

Our goal is to create timeless pottery that embodies the spirit of the Outer Banks, fostering appreciation for its beauty and preserving its essence for generations to come.
